Citations upon citations: the lament of the college student

papers_icon.jpgI know why I haven’t gone back for my Master’s degree yet-I dread the thought of writing term papers and more importantly, researching journals for said term papers. The fact that I received my Bachelor’s almost two years ago does nothing to quell this nightmare. But if I had to do it all over again, I’d probably want Papers by my side, dutifully cataloguing my research articles, whether they’re in PDF, EndNote, or BibTex formats.

Created by PhD students Alexander Griekspoor and Tom Groothuis, Papers not only stores, files and lets you view your articles, it can also search the PubMed database for article matches. As of right now, this feature didn’t do me any good since my research for a term paper about A. S. Byatt’s dense mystery, Possession, is decidedly literature-based and PubMed just doesn’t want to hear about that sort of thing. But Papers is a step up from my process of filing PDFs deep in the sub-levels of my MacBook’s hard drive.

Although it is still very much in beta (alpha, really, since the developers are heeding feedback and changing features), Papers is starting to look like an important application for those of us in research fields. Keep up the good work, Drs. Griekspoor and Groothuis!

Best wishes,
Clint
