If I missed music every time I accidentally dropped my iPod and ripped the headphones out of its jack, I’d probably never be able to listen to an entire song. Thank Jobs for the sweet auto-pause feature, which stops your music dead in its tracks whenever you unplug your ‘phones.
It’d be totally sweet if my MacBook Air had that feature, too, for every time I dropped it and ripped the headphones out of its jack. No such luck out of the box, but AllocInit stepped up to the plate and knocked one of the park with their simple auto-pause app for the Mac, Breakaway. The Mothership’s Dan Frakes takes a gander:
When running, this nifty utility automatically pauses iTunes whenever your headphones are unplugged from your laptop’s headphone jack—on purpose or accidentally. Breakaway is also useful if you’re using headphones that are a hassle to remove and insert; if you need to walk away from your laptop for a bit, you can leave your in-ear-canal ‘phones in your ears and instead unplug them from your computer, pausing iTunes in the process.
Neat. Now I can drop my Air without worrying that I’ll miss the hilarious latter half of Johnny Cash’s A Boy Named Sue. Check the full Mac Gems article for a more in-depth look at the convenient little music stoplight.
