If you’re a recent switcher, PixelSpread has a comprehensive list of applications to make your life on the Mac easier. Even for long-time Mac users, this list has some goodies in store. Among those listed, there are a few which are highly noteworthy:
Transmit is far and away my favorite FTP application for the Mac. Between uploading files to my website and transferring stuff to and from my modified Xbox, Transmit gets the job done in perfect Mac form. Designed to work like the Finder, one of the major features is that “you know it already” if you work with OS X. For switchers, the two-view interface will be quite familiar to FileZilla and WS_FTP.
Sidenote was new to me when I read through the list, but it’s an application I’ll quickly be depending upon. Up until now, I’ve been keeping a TextEdit file in my Dock to drop notes into. With Sidenote, though, notes can simply hide just off-screen, ready to pop into view whenever necessary.
Finally, Transmission is my preferred BitTorrent client for Mac OS X. While there are a few others, including Xtorrent and Azureus, none have quite the right feel as Transmission, which easily handles multiple torrents with an easy-to-use interface. Unlike Azureus and the official BitTorrent client for Mac, Transmission is very lightweight, letting you multi-task while content arrives on your desktop.
