Apple joins the Creative Suite 3 party

CS3 at the Apple StoreDerik was on the ball last night with news directly from Macworld concerning Adobe’s Creative Suite 3 update. But while Macworld was busy covering the release, and Adobe was busy adding tons of CS3 info to their site, what do you think Apple was doing? Sitting on their hands? I don’t think so! Apple was busy adding CS3 to their site as well.

Actually, the Apple site has been updated with CS3 info for quite some time now (I first noticed it at 3am last night). CS3 is now featured on the front page of the Apple Store. Further exploration reveals a special Apple hardware CS3 page which reads “…if you’ve been waiting for Creative Suite 3 before buying your new Mac, the wait is over.” How subtle.

If you’re confused like Derik over all the different versions, prices and dates of CS3, Apple’s also attempted to clarify with their breakdown page. Or you can give up entirely and just call an Apple Creative Solutions Expert, as suggested at the top of the page.

One additional point of interest is that some CS3 upgrade packages are more expensive in the Apple Store than they are from Adobe. For example, if you are looking to upgrade to the CS3 Design Premium package (my favorite) and currently own Creative Suite 2.3 Premium, Apple will charge you $599.95. Order through Adobe.com and that price drops significantly to $440.

All this exciting CS3 info aside, I’ve still got one question: what in the heck really is in that box? Adobe still has an event at 3:30 EST which is being webcast live from NYC. Something important and exciting simply must be happening for Adobe to want to create so much hype about a live webcast. I guess a few more hours will tell (come on Mac upgrades!).
