Aperture 2 hits the Apple Store

The Apple Store went down a couple of hours ago today and is now back up. Not quite surprisingly, we have a new product we can shell our hard earned money out for now. Apple has just released Aperture 2, the next version of its popular advanced image management and processing application.

This new version has “100+ new features”, the most notable ones being:

  • Revamped and streamlined user interface
  • New image processing engine and re-engineered database makes it a lot more snappy
  • Several new tools for “highlight recovery, color vibrancy, local contrast definition, soft-edged retouching, vignetting and RAW fine-tuning”
  • Support for publishing to a .Mac web gallery (do people actually use it?)
  • Quick preview for scanning through your images quickly
  • Events view à la iPhoto ‘08
  • All-in-one Inspector and HUD

All this and more for a new low price of $199, down from $299. Users upgrading from the previous version have to pay just $99. A free trial is waiting for you and it is available for purchase right now, in case you were wondering.

Apple Store also added more cheaper stuff in their Refurbished/Clearance section of the store - MacBook Pro, Macbook, ipod, etc.

So... who's going to do the review? The Aperture 2 versus Lightroom comparison?

There's also a $10 option for people like me who purchased Aperture after January 1st.
