Adium devs looking for a few good coders

AdiumIt probably wouldn’t be a stretch to say that Adium is the IM client of choice for the MacUser staff (Pat’s even got his custom-skinned) and with the package’s recent long-awaited upgrade to 1.0, it’s a better choice for chatting than ever.

But just because the project has reached 1.0 doesn’t mean that work is done—not by a long shot. The trouble is that the Adium crew is pretty severely understaffed, especially given the large influx of users that came along with the 1.0 milestone. Developer Chris Forsythe has posted a request for help on the team’s blog, both for the app’s actual coding as well as Quality Assurance.

For starters, let’s take a look at the “Needs Feedback” milestone on Trac. There are, at the moment of this writing, 242 open tickets in this milestone. It should be much lower. Our general policy is to leave a ticket open for 2 weeks once placed into this milestone, and then to close the ticket as “WorksForMe” until we get feedback on it.
Chris also points out that a lack of developers is the major reason that they haven’t implemented voice or video chat, so if those are features you’d like to see in Adium, and you have yourself some merry little coding experiences, consider lending a hand. They’re also accepting applications for Google’s Summer of Code project, if that floats your boat.
