The menu bar is a perfect place to stick a few little utilities which provide current, easily accessible system information. If you don’t already have a few of these little suckers, then you might consider cruising over to the Flying Yogi site to check out their options. The Menu Utilities Collection is a compilation of twelve different menu bar utilities covering everything from hard drive space to calendars and free RAM. My favorite, though, is definitely the MenuIP utility, which provides your Mac’s current external IP address. This is perfect for external remote VPN access when providing tech support (say, to a family member). Be sure to check out Applelink’s page with more complete descriptions and screenshots.
