Trojan scares be damned. The Mac is still the safest platform around, according to independent security firm Sophos. The advice came as part of a report detailing malware activity in 2006. While virus and worm infestations appears to have dropped, the number of Trojan horses in the wild appear to be increasing quickly. But the 10 most common malware programs only affect Windows, with none of them running on the Mac.
As always, I’d advise that you not get cocky. Certainly, there have been no documented outbreaks of Mac viruses in the wild for years now, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t practice safe computing. Personally, I like to think that the reason Macs don’t get viruses is because we’re such an intelligent, enlightened userbase. Don’t let me down now, okay?
