Firefox, Safari to IE: “And we’re still the prettiest, too!”

genericSafari.jpgI don’t suppose it’s all Internet Explorer’s fault that no one much likes it. What’s that, you say? IE’s “zoom text” feature is still wonky at best, compared to other browsers? Well, in that case, the shiny blue “e” gets no sympathy from me or my decaying eyes. And now Firefox and Safari have the gall to boast of 26 percent fewer vulnerabilities than IE? The sheer nerve of those impudent browsers!

According to Symantec’s tally, 40 Firefox vulnerabilities were disclosed between August and December 2006; Internet Explorer (IE), meanwhile, was hit with 54 bugs. Opera and Safari — the browser Apple Inc. bundles with Mac OS X — had four flaws each.

“But Kate,” you may say, “how much of a beating did Firefox and Internet Explorer take during all of 2006?” Here, the gap between figures closes: Firefox had 87 flaws while IE endured 92. However, we find that on average, Mozilla patched Firefox security holes in two days, while Microsoft took 10 days. Ouch.

Firefox earns my "still the prettiest" award for being faster and for that awesome Google bar (the fact that it runs on my iBook without freezing is also a plus...take that, IE!).

Safari to Firefox: and I'm the prettiest of them all, and faster too, so there!
