You might remember the hacking contest from last year’s CanSecWest security conference, which resulted in a QuickTime exploit discovered by researcher Dino Dai Zovi (and subsequently patched by Apple). CanSecWest has announced plans to hold another hacking contest this year, pitting Leopard against Vista against Linux in a contest for title of Supreme High Commander of the Order of the Entire Universe.
“The fur is flying right now about which is more secure: Linux, Vista or Leopard,” [CanSecWest organizer Dragos] Ruiu told ZDNet.co.uk on Thursday. “Linux guys have their propaganda; Windows guys are saying this and that; Apple guys have buried their heads in the sand as usual. I guess the proof is in the pudding.”Zing. This year, the prizes will be several laptops, “something lustworthy,” according to Ruiu (pictured above). Might we suggest a MacBook Air or two?
Last year’s contest was sponsored by security firm Tipping Point, who subsidized a $10,000 prize—there is no sponsor yet for this year’s conference, which takes place March 26th-28th in Vancouver. I guess around then we’ll find out who is right…and who is dead. Or hacked.
