The competition over the living room is heating up so quickly that if MacUser was written on paper, it would soon scorch the page. Not only will Apple face competition from Netgear in its effort to escort digital content from the computer to the television, but now Microsoft as well.
In Microsoft’s CES keynote, Mr. Burns Bill Gates invited Robbie Bach, the President of Microsoft’s Entertainment and Devices Division (with a department like that, it’s no wonder why Microsoft has the dominant digital music device on the market) to divulge plans of IPTV.
IPTV is Microsoft’s implementation of digital content distribution through the Xbox 360. It will allow live television and movies to mingle with the games that are already available for the console.
According to the keynote, Microsoft IPTV will be available “by Holiday 2007.” Needless to say, Apple must hurry to get a product like this on the market. Hopefully they’ll be able to find an opportunity to make an announcement soon.
MacUser is your source for news, info, and opinion about Apple, the Mac, and the iPod. Our dedicated team of bloggers covers everything that is relevant to Mac users — and, okay, some stuff that’s not quite relevant, but is still a lot of fun.
Wow, I'm pribably late to the game but a few months back I had a revelation. Bill Gates eerily looks like Mr Burns! Could Groening have done it on purpose?
Seeing your posts only made me laugh.
Yish!
