We’re a few days late telling you that Microsoft released Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1). The real question for Mac users is whether this actually changes anything for us. And no, it doesn’t. Does it change anything for our PC using brethren? Not really, despite an expansive list of changes.
Short of renaming Vista something entirely new, improving performance several fold, and reducing system requirements, we’re still going to see a trend of savvy users requesting Windows XP. It’s a little sad because Microsoft genuinely seemed interested in improving the user experience (read: copying a lot from Mac OS X) and ended up making a product that antagonizes users, slowly.
If you’re one of those brave Mac users with Vista on their Boot Camp partition, it’s time to make the donuts update.
The biggest irony is that it doesn't work with Boot Camp on Macs - it gives the dreaded partmgr.sys BSOD.
I played with vista at my inlaws, I tried to get them to switch to a mac but they didn't believe me about running excel on a mac and they bought a dell. vista is such a mess - I think MS looked at tiger and started just randomly incorporating things into vista not understanding how it is all tied together to improve the user experience. I believe that is why vista is a cluster f$ck. I wonder if vista still uses the registry. The registry is windows Achilles heel.
