I noticed late last night as Woot turned over to their new product for the day that it was a brand new Zune. Not refurb. (For those not in the know, Woot sells one product per day at a steep discount. Generally it’s gear that refurbished or not selling well in the market.) That by itself is delicious. Microsoft is having so much trouble selling the devices that they turn to discounts to clear the stock.
Even sweeter is that it was being sold for $150. That’s $100 under it’s original price, or in other terms, 40% off. You’d think that’d be enough to move the units, but it took 21 hours to sell out the 6300 units they had. I was really hoping it wouldn’t sell out. On the other hand when you think about it, yesterday must have been Microsoft’s biggest sales day for the Zune.
Now I feel bad for them.
Not really.
im sure it was the same situation as when dell.com listed zunes for $100 (it was a mistake, they ended up canceling all of the orders)
people are buying them because they can resell them on ebay or craigslist and make maybe 50 bucks. but 6300 zunes will probably flood the market, and auctions will go un-bidded
