In a BBC news report published today, Microsoft claimed that the possibility of an iPod rival is based on “speculation and rumors.” Microsoft currently has nothing “to announce at this time.” Now the question arises: is Microsoft simply trying to pull an Apple by maintaining secrecy and increasing hype? Or does Microsoft really have nothing to show? I’m going to go with the first possibility, because:
Unnamed music industry executives have told the New York Times that they have received briefings about the product.
Additionally, Microsoft may be planning to give users the songs they’ve bought from the iTMS in Microsoft’s DRM format. That’s quite a big step and may help many users convert to the Microsoft device, should it offer better features than the iPod…
