HP sez: Most Vista Buyers Downgrade To Windows XP

Windows Vista box how toDespite Microsoft’s renewed efforts to jumpstart the company and position itself as more of a true rival to Apple, Redmond still can’t catch a break.

The Australian tech publication APC recently published an interview with HP marketing manager Jane Bradburn, who unveiled this gem:

“However, what we have been able to do with Microsoft is ship PCs with a Vista Business licence but with XP pre-loaded. That is still the majority of business computers we are selling today,” she said.

In other words, all those Vista sales that apparently are happening somewhere out there may not actually be, you know, sales of Vista. Freaking fantastic.

So, Steve, which part of the Microsoft story is this exactly?

If you bother to check your facts, before you start Windows bashing, you would see that every OS has lost market share in the month of July, except for Vista, (this included Mac OS) Vista was the only OS to gain market last month, so I think that makes Vista true success. For more details:

So did you just not read the article, or what?

“However, what we have been able to do with Microsoft is ship PCs with a Vista Business licence but with XP pre-loaded. That is still the majority of business computers we are selling today,”

These are all counted as Vista sales, but nobody freaking wants Vista. They are buying XP boxes, but unfortunately having to pay for Vista to get it. That means these figures you link to are worthless, just like Microsoft's figures of how many XBoxes they've "sold," when they mean "shipped," into some poor schmuck's store shelves and warehouse space.

Of course, HP would have to pay for a Vista license for every computer they sell, even if they sold it with no OS at all: one of the many illegal business practices Microsoft has been found guilty of, but has never stopped doing.

I know paid Microsoft shills cruise all the Mac-oriented websites to deny any new facts that come up and spread their lies and FUD, but come on, at least read what you're ostensibly responding to!
