We all love hearing from the other Steve, don’t we? Tonight, Steve Wozniak is speaking in Virginia Beach on the subject of (gasp!) tech. While most of us can’t be there, PilotOnline has a nice interview with Apple’s co-founder.
The interview talks, among other things, about where technology is heading, the competition in the tech world coming from China and India, guys vs. gals in math and science, and many other topics. This bit grabbed my eye:
What is your involvement with Apple now?
I don’t participate full time inside. It’s more of a consultant category. I have a very low salary, just loyal to Apple.
And what field of technology does Woz want to focus on, you ask?
I would go for robotics, and I would try to think up some human tasks - tasks around the home - and try to build very inexpensive machines to do that. I always think in terms of using very few parts to get a lot out - very little input, very high output, that’s high efficiency.Right now, I’m thinking, boy, I’d love to build a tiny, little robot that will go out there and, ” dit, dit, dit, dit, dit,” go around and scrub my car and wash it for me, and I’d just forget it. I’d turn it on and come back three hours later and it’s done.
Speaking of robotics, a friend recently went to a national robotic competition and told me that Steve Wozniak was one of the judges there.
Why does it take three hours to wash the car? I want my car-washing robot to be much more efficient than that.
