Woz bites into Apple

Woz AppleAlways known for his vociferous opinions, co-founder Steve Wozniak had some choice words for Apple’s latest products during a trip to Sydney today. In talking with the Sydney Morning Herald, Woz spilled his opinion on everything from the iPhone’s lack of 3G to the MacBook Air.

Woz was disappointed—understandably—about the iPhone’s lack of 3G, saying:

I was shocked because Apple is bringing the full internet [to mobiles] - full web pages with pictures and everything - and it’s not 3G and I knew that would be aspeed detriment…I don’t understand why it would be a battery issue - I get as much life on my 3G phones as I get on my non-3G phones.
The world then came crashing down around us as Woz admitted that he carries both his iPhone and a Motorola RAZR for, and I’m quoting the article here, “taking calls and browsing the web.” Whaaa? Whatchu talkin’ bout, Woz? (Alright, alright, that’s the last time we do that one, I promise).

On the topic of Apple’s newest laptop, Woz said that despite the fact that he liked the Air, he didn’t think it would be a hit. He specifically cited the need to carry around all the extra accessories and the inability to swap batteries—we think this just means it’s not a computer for you, Steve. Then again, you also carry around a stainless steel business card and play Segway polo, so we’re thinking you may not be the target demographic.

He also added that the other Steve was sometimes less than thrilled with his frank comments about Apple, though he rarely called to complain.

“We’re really good friends - never argued over these things - but once in a while he [Jobs] will just have a comment, ‘thanks a lot’.”
Then Jobs reputedly goes back to perfecting his animatronic Woz (prototype recently spotted at Disney World) and his plans of replacing Woz with the far more normal robotic doppelgäanger.

Also, if we may put a word in Woz’s ear: that is a seriously creepy picture, dude. What the heck are you doing to that apple?

He's browsing the Web on a RAZR? Even Motorola engineers don't do that. Seriously, my brother happily farms the mobile web surfing out to me. One of his coworkers has an iPhone and a 3G Q. He says pages load faster on the Q, but navigation is so much better on the iPhone that he prefers the EDGE iPhone.

I have to strongly disagree with Woz on this one.
