Most of us Mac fans are in full grip of Steve Job’s RDF (reality distortion field) and we’re proud of it too. The fiancee of the infamous John C. Welch (a man, let me tell you from personal experience, that you don’t want to get on the bad side of) is writing up her thoughts about marrying him, as as she affectionately (I think) puts it, “a Mac Geek”.
I never expected to marry a Mac Geek. I never expected to marry, period. I thought I’d grow up, become a rich and famous director and, spend my romantic life bouncing between hot actors and the occasional male model. Did reality figure into this little daydream? Not really.
She presents the perspective of someone close to a Mac geek but not one herself per se. It’s a fascinating look, and makes me question whether I’m perhaps a tad too obsessed. There’s another very good reason for most of you to read it as well. It’s a profile of a woman that has willingly agreed to spend her life with a Mac geek. Knowing what to look for is half the battle.
