Announced back in May, Jonathon Ives received his National Design Award yesterday. The awards were presented at the White House. The first lady, Laura Bush, spoke at the event.
She said the “union of form and function has changed the way we peel potatoes and brush our teeth. Your design has made it more fun to go back in time and play oldies on our iPods and to really go back in time by doctoring our photos on Photoshop.”
That’s right, Adobe got an award as well. And just because I tend to nitpick mainstream news stories, I like the quote about Adobe winning.
Adobe Systems, the creator of Photoshop, Acrobat and Dreamweaver software, received the corporate achievement award. Thompson said it had created “the gold standard.”
Adobe created Dreamweaver? I seem to remember a little company named Macromedia, but maybe my memory is fuzzy. Anyway, congratulations to Jonny i, he absolutely deserves it.

Great, now only if Adobe would lower their prices to something realistic so the rest of the world can afford Photoshop. Great software, but come on, how can you possibly justify a $600 price tag? It's ridiculous. No one complains because it’s corporate money, but what about the home user/hobbyist? No wonder everyone steals it. Maybe they should have gotten an award for biggest corporate rip off.
As far as John Ive goes, hand that man a cigar. He's worth every penny Jobs is paying him. Congrats.
Speaking as a Jonathan myself, I think you'll find Ive's name finishes with an '-an' rather than an '-on'. Cheers!
