In a move that will delight many a traveling Apple fan, United Airlines has announced plans to provide in-flight entertainment systems that will connect with iPod and iPhones in some of its aircraft, letting you view your media on a 15.4 inch screen at your seat.
The saga begins with the first such equipped plane, United flight 936, which leaves Washington D.C. today at 5:40 PM for Zurich, Switzerland. United plans to trick out its entire fleet of international, widebody aircraft with the new entertainment system over the next two years. Way to go, United! It always felt weird being glued to my 2.5 inch iPod screen when I had a perfectly good 15 inch screen right in front of me. Now I can put it to use. Now if only they could expand those awesome first-class “lie-flat” seats into economy class.
