Oh, what a tangled world wide web we weave. Aaron reported earlier in the week on that newest mystery hit, The Case of the Flaming MagSafe Connector. The plot later thickened, as the pictures were removed from Flickr by the owner, at Apple’s request, and replaced with horribly, horribly pixelated images, no doubt designed to protect the innocent.
Somehow, in the chain of transmission, some news sites were reporting that Apple had asked Flickr to take down the images. Say it with me, folks: oopsie. The latest Flickr blog post clarifies that Apple never approached the site, and that the removals were entirely at the picture owner’s discretion.
In the interest of full disclosure, it should be noted that Apple is apparently sending the owner of the machine a brand new MacBook Pro. A colorfully frank comment from the photos’ owner reads: “For those whose immediate reaction is along the lines of ‘censorship’ and other big words: I don’t care.” Rest assured, sir, I’ll try to avoid bigwordiness whenever possible.
