MacworldIt’s the end of 2007 and the beginning of a hopefully wonderful new year, so nothing screams “Happy New Year” like a ‘Top 10’ list. Following on the heels of sister sites PC World and Computerworld, our esteemed colleague Philip Michaels over at Macworld has compiled a list of the ten most important Mac stories of 2007. However, since the first story itself on the list is completely unrelated to Macs, it might more accurately be described as a list of the biggest Apple-related stories of the past year. From the hugely hyped product launches such as the iPhone, Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard, and Adobe Creative Suite 3 to the record-breaking Mac sales figures and the Mac trojan horse, this list has it all covered. You’ll even find a mention of the hopefully all-but-forgotten issue of Greenpeace targeting Apple and Steve Jobs’s open letter response promising to take strict measures addressing all concerns.

Though I do agree with everything that made it to the list, one story that is might be considered more important than some of those that on the list is the widespread cult status that the iPhone has achieved in the span of just six months. The launch itself was huge, of course, but even more astonishing was the fact that even tiny little mentions of the iPhone were enough to kindle a fire of endless discussion all over the Internet. The thousands of unofficial third-party applications for the iPhone (despite the war that Apple is waging against them) are testimony to the phenomenon that the iPhone has become. This one definitely deserved a heading to its name [Which, for more on, you might check out this entire article on the year in iPhone and iPod news, lovingly compiled by one of your co-editors. That’s right, it’s shameless self-promotion day! -DM].

What say you, dear readers? Was 2007 really “the death of DRM”? Is there anything that Macworld missed? Open up in the comment strings.
