Sources have revealed that May will bring about a new serial numbering system for Apple. The new system removes the current 11 digit alphanumeric number and replaces it with an 18 digit purely numeric number. The inside parts (optical drives, hard drives, etc.) have a new, similar numbering system as well. Apple claims this new system is to accommodate “continued growth and scalability.” Sure, it may seem inconsequential, but really it’s a good sign that Apple is growing and expanding!
