Intel says portable quad core chips are coming soon

Welcome to Intel.jpgIt looks like the day of the portable quad core processor may soon be upon us. Intel said this week that it’s nearing the release of such a chip and is also finishing work on a new generation of ultra-thin notebook chips.

The Santa Clara-based chip maker plans on combining the two processor families, which will offer manufacturers a total of eight new chips to choose from when they’re announced in the next 90 days.

This is really exciting news, although it also means our dual core MacBooks and MacBook Pros are sadly on the verge of becoming obsolete. There’s also the question of how much a quad core processor will affect battery life. Four processing cores would be awesome and all, but not at the significant expense of battery life.

I'd be happy with some kind of power management that allowed 4 cores plugged in and 2 cord on battery.

And I just got my MacBook Pro 17" :S My life in a nutshell
