CarbombLondon.jpg[NOTE: Initial reports suggested that the car bomb was located near the Apple Store Regent Street location in London. Later reports showed that this was not the case. My apologies for the error-Kate Marshall, 10:03 PM EST, 6/29/07]

A car bomb was discovered in London early Friday morning June 29, according to the International Herald Tribune.

Investigating reports of a suspicious vehicle parked near Central London, police discovered a car bomb containing several gas cylinders, nails, and gasoline. It was parked near the Tiger Tiger nightclub.

The bomb was a “big device” and posed a substantial threat to the area, according to police. Officers disabled the bomb with a controlled explosion.

Don't believe the hype - the Apple Store Regent Street is (in US-speak) several blocks from the nightclub where the car was found. I went down Regent Street early this morning and everything actually seemed remarkably normal. Thank the good Lord that the bomb didn't go off.

it was nowhere near the bloody store - the bomb was about a mile away

Not quite. Apple's store is at the top end of Regent Street, about 0.9 miles from where the car bomb was found. Even an IRA-style 1000lb bomb wouldn't have harmed the Store from that distance.

This story is incorrect. The car found on a street on the OTHER end of Regent Street. I was actually waiting for a bus just hours ago from Apple Store Regent Street and everything is normal. The Regent Street area is not closed at all.

The worst impact the discovery of the bomb had on the Apple Store, is that traffic was diverted up Regent Street.

This meant Regent Street was pretty congested all of Friday.

Also, I agree with the previous posters.
The bomb was too far away from the Regent Street Apple Store to do any direct damage, had it detonated.

Most likely the store would have fallen within the security cordon, if there had been a detonation, though.
