Atmosphere wins My Dream App

Posted by Pat Nakajima | Wednesday, October 25, 2006 9:22 PM PT

My Dream AppAs of 11:25 PM EST, with a total of 6566 votes (or 19.22% of the vote), Atmosphere has won first place in the My Dream App competition. Its developer, Cameron Westland, will receive a MacBook and 15% of the royalties on the application, once it is released. In second and third place were Portal and Cookbook, respectively. Their developers, Farzad Sadjadi and Michael Yuan will receive the same prizes as Cameron Westland (sans eternal bragging rights in the Mac community). The runners up, each of whom will receive a Mac Mini, are as follows:

  • Kevin Capizzi, Hijack, with 6104 votes
  • Richard Whitelock, Whistler, with 5401 votes
  • Dan Lundmark, Blossom, with 3868 votes
With “celebrity” judges the likes of Steve Wozniak and J Allard (I was confused too), My Dream App clearly caught the attention of not only us run of the mill Mac fanatics, but some of the biggest wigs in the industry. Two months after its inception, the final vote tally almost reached 14,000.

Congratulations to the winners. I’m looking forward to actually being able to install the apps after gazing at the screenshots for so long.

First, they're conestants, not developers. They provide the idea, a developer actually creates the app.

Also, don't expect to be able to download them soon: they'll take at least 4 months to develop.
