Let us take this moment to give a hearty congratulations to Apple, who, according to preliminary data released by market research firm Gartner, garnered an 8.5 percent share of the U.S. PC market during the second quarter of the year, surpassing Acer and landing them into third place overall. Woot!
During the three-month period ending in June, Mac sales rose more than 38 percent to nearly 1.4 million units in the US alone. They’re still a long shot away from the number two and number one spots held by HP and Dell respectively. Dell sold 5.254 million units in the US, and HP sold 4,166 (they’re still the biggest PC vendor in the world, though). Nevertheless, if I were in Dell’s shoes, I’d be feeling a tinge of nervousness. Apple is no longer a fringe player. It’s a big deal, and their US ranking shows it. The Mac momentum is building up, and world domination is surely on the horizon. Ladies and gentlemen, it’s a good time to be an Apple fanboy.

I wouldn´t be surprise since they are making every cent they could with the ipod touch users charging all over the world for the update fee, which I believe its a USA Law that is tied to only USA customers not European or any other part of the world.
Thank you apple for getting more popular out of the pockets of the entire world who bought an Ipod touch.
Umm, Tony, the posting is about computer shipments, not iPods of any stripe. On topic, please?
@Tony, it's an accounting law and Apple has to account for all shipments even the ones overseas.
