It seems like Apple is ready to bravely explore territory that no remotely stylish company would dare tread. That’s right: head mounted displays. Or in this case in particular, head-mounted laser displays.
Apple today filed a patent for such a device, but to move away from the stereotypical, unsightly monstrosities that have been associated with head-mounted displays in the past, Apple plans on putting all the image processing and generation hardware in a belt-clipped processing box.
The visual info will then travel through a fiber optic cable and into wedge optics that could potentially lie in normal-looking glasses, and wham-o! There ya have it; the future of portable video. Pretty exciting stuff, but it’s going to take some serious Apple engineering magic to keep this gadget as stylish as the rest of the Apple product line.
