The first 2 billion are free…that’s how Coke gets you

Coke+iTunesAs in prior years, Apple has teamed up with Coca-Cola to distribute free iTunes tracks (as well as iPods and other swag, such as concert tickets) to soda drinkers in Europe. I have two problems with this promotional deal: 1) I gave up drinking soda years ago; 2) I don’t live in Europe. Other than that, I couldn’t be happier.

The launch event for the 17 country promotion will take place at the Cannes film festival, which starts today in La France, and the promotion will run until the end of August. Over 2 billion packs of Coke, Diet Coke, and Coke Zero (is that…water?) will take part in the promotion, making it the largest music promotion in Europe ever. The concerts are being co-sponsored by iTunes and Coca-Cola, with the recordings made available exclusively on iTunes.

So, European readers, if you decide you want to share the love, you know where to send all those excess free songs. Hmm? Hmm?

I believe Coke Zero is some form of "zero-carbohydrate" Coke product.

Coke Zero rocks.

It is basically the Coke Classic formula but with artificial sweetener. Think Diet Coke, but without the nastiness.

Diet Coke after all is a diet version of the failed New Coke recipe.

Coke Zero is a new name for Diet Coke. Same Stuff, new name, catch a few more people.

Coca-Cola Zero is artificially-sweetened Classic Coca-Cola.

Diet Coke is artificially-sweetened New Coke.

Coca-Cola C2 is half Classic Coca-Cola, half Coca-Cola Zero.

Diet Coke Plus is Diet Coke with added Vitamins and Minerals.

Yes, this is confusing as hell.

Not to be confused with Diet Coke (which has 0 carbs plus that lovely aspartame aftertaste mmmm). I assume Coke Zero tastes better; but, like Dan, I gave up soda several years ago.

Geez, who did Coke's marketing scheme: Microsoft? I'm surprised there's no Coke Ultimate Edition, signed personally by John Pemberton. Okay, he's dead, I suppose. Maybe he should have drank more Coke...
