You might not be able to tell from my rather placid demeanor, but I’m a big Nine Inch Nails fan. While I like them for the music, releasing some music for remixing in Garageband a while back didn’t hurt. To promote his upcoming album Year Zero, Trent Reznor has released the first single, Survivalism, as a Garageband project (with a little help from Apple, who is supplying some bandwidth). You have to love the note at the bottom stating “requires Mac OS X + Garageband 3”.
The 104 MB zipped file was released to give his fans a chance to experiment. He also still uses Macs to produce his music and has for a long time. He used a Mac Plus to make Pretty Hate Machine. A Mac Plus! Things have come a ways since then. Maybe Trent should be the closing act for the next keynote.
MacUser is your source for news, info, and opinion about Apple, the Mac, and the iPod. Our dedicated team of bloggers covers everything that is relevant to Mac users — and, okay, some stuff that’s not quite relevant, but is still a lot of fun.
