iTunes is the top place for free music?

200703130243I guess iTunes free downloads often go unacknowledged by many. I know I have never really appreciated all the free music Apple sends my way. However, maybe it’s time we give Apple a mental “thanks,” as the iTunes Store was recently rated the #1 place to get free music by Britain’s Q magazine.

Apple reliably gives away 2 free tracks per week: one Single of the Week and one Discovery Download. Of course there are countless free movie and song downloads which vary from week to week. If you’re looking for free music, we’ve got you covered.

There's also usually a free iTunes Latino download each week. I've gotten (rough guess here) over 500 free tracks from iTunes over the years, plus scores of free TV shows.

The nice thing is that a good number of those tracks have turned out to be great songs.

Actually, iTunes gives away 3 songs a week, the Single of the Week, the Discovery Download, and the iTunes Latino Single of the Week.

I pick them up every Tuesday (like today) and are pretty much the only content I "purchase" from the iTunes Store any more.

I download the free songs every week. Regardless of what they are. Sometimes they turn out to be some really incredible songs. Sometimes, not so much.

Not to mention my weekly rationing of new music.
