Three out of four ain’t bad, right? Following in the footsteps of his fellow Beatle, Paul McCartney, the solo catalog of John Lennon is making its debut on iTunes. They join former bandmate Ringo Starr, whose own catalog has been available on iTunes for some time.
“John would have loved the fact that his music will now be available in a format suited to a new generation of listeners,” said Yoko Ono.“John Lennon is one of the greatest artists of our time,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “We’re thrilled to have his solo catalog available on the iTunes Store for the first time.”
The iTunes offering is composed of sixteen of Lennon’s works, many of them recently remastered. Two collections, “Lennon Legend” and “Acoustic” are being made available for the first time digitally, and best of all, as the Lennon catalog is published by EMI, the albums will also be available as iTunes Plus DRM-free tracks (something of which I think Lennon would have approved). Also, for the first thirty days, several of the albums will include exclusive video content.
The leaves only George Harrison, whose sole presence on the iTunes Store appears to be one track on a Bob Dylan tribute album. Of course The Beatles were greater than the sum of their parts, so the Beatleswatch continues unabated.
