Just as we learned from the Heroes season finale, you can’t. According to estimates from NPD group, Apple is still growing much faster than its competitors in the PC market, with figures suggesting that Apple is currently growing 62 percent year-over-year in retail sales, as compared to the 14 percent growth of the rest of the PC industry.
As if that’s not not numerically crazy enough, figures from the same period show that Apple’s notebook sales have grown 94 percent from last year at the same time. iPod growth hasn’t been quite as blockbuster, with sales dipping 3 percent, perhaps (if I may play analyst) showing pent-up demand for revamped iPod models, and perhaps even the expectation of the iPhone.
Of course, these numbers are merely estimates derived from channel checking and other analysty shenanigans, so we won’t have hard data until Apple’s next quarterly financial reports, due in July. Yet another thing to look forward to.
MacUser is your source for news, info, and opinion about Apple, the Mac, and the iPod. Our dedicated team of bloggers covers everything that is relevant to Mac users — and, okay, some stuff that’s not quite relevant, but is still a lot of fun.
Cheers, now I know what happens at the end of Heroes...
Just as a note, please don't give out plot spoilers for US shows that may be showing in other countries. Mind you, we've only just started getting Battlestar Galactica over here so we could be miles behind. Best avoid TV show references altogether.
I think the best thing Apple ever did was move to the Intel chips! The MacBook is my first Mac and I still kick myself for not picking something up years ago! Since I got my Mac, I've talked 3 other people into getting Macs too (2 iMacs for my parents and sister and a MacBook for a friend at work). I think word of mouth is really helping Apple gain more ground (well, aside from the fantastic design and superior OS).
