Contrary to popular belief Apple impacted by real world conditions

poormac.jpgIn these harsh economic times one of the first household budget line items to suffer is consumer electronics (we just stop eating in my household. A man can live on iPods alone.). Our friends at Computerworld are reporting that Apple, long time Wall Street darling, is not immune to consumer cutbacks. According to a survey conducted by ChangeWave Research of 4,200 people planning on buying a computer in the next 90 days, fewer are going Mac. 29% plan to buy a Mac laptop (perhaps a still-to-come newly revved MacBook or MacBook Pro?) and 26% plan on buying a desktop Mac, down 5 and 4 points respectively from the same survey conducted a month ago.

Sounds bad, huh? Fear not, fellow Mac fiends, even give the slight downward trend Apple is on course to bolster their overall marketshare which is good news [Wait a sec: Apple makes overalls? -DM]. Add to that the fact that most of the analysts quoted in the article are bullish about Apple and things don’t seem so bad. We’ll see how the market reacts to Apple’s quarterly conference call about the company’s financials in two weeks.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to withdraw all my money from the bank and convert it into something that will actually hold some value: iPod Classics.

Scott - "Wall street darling"? Are we talking about the same Apple? The Apple whose stock price drops every time they make new computer or technology announcements? I dunno, man. Wall Street may have invited Apple in for tea, but they're only serving the regular scones. And no sandwiches.

...that will actually hold some value: iPod Classics.

That reminds me of a simpsons quote.

Attendant: Would you like to buy some Itchy and Scratchy money?
Homer: What's that?
Attendant: It's money that's made just for the park. It works like regular money, but it's, uh, fun.
Bart: Do it dad!
Homer: I'll take $1000!

Homer sees that no stores accept Itchy and Scratchy money.

Homer: D'oh!
