Scott McNulty says goodbye…and hello!

Posted by Dan Moren | Wednesday, August 06, 2008 12:55 PM PT

scottmcnulty.jpgWhen we heard last week that Scott McNulty was departing The Unofficial Apple Weblog, we were—on the one hand—greatly saddened. Scott has been blogging about Apple since before I even got into the game (ironically, I first met Scott at Macworld 2006 when I was a mere fresh-faced youth on the hunt for a job), and he’s one of the most respected and talented writers in the community. In the world of Mac blogging, Scott is a veritable rock star: he served as lead blogger at TUAW for several years, and while we may have been competitors in that time, I’ve always been pleased to count him as a friend and colleague.

But when the universe closes one door, it opens a window (to get a nice draft and conserve energy, you know), so I’m even happier to announce that Scott will be joining MacUser’s team of crack commandos as its newest Senior Contributor. You know our mission: to bring you not only up-to-the minute news, but also the kind of incisive, cutting-edge analysis that we can only distribute on the Internet—because if we printed it out you would be at risk from lacerations. We think Scott is just the man to help us accomplish that goal.

If you know Scott—and heck, if you don’t, you soon will—you’ll also know that he’s a man of many talents on the vast reaches of the Interweb (be sure to check out his excellent video podcast on cooking, Fork You). We plan to make him feel at home here, which, as far as we can tell, means making him muck out the comment spam filter and forcing him to write endless blog pieces about Microsoft Exchange compatibility—we hope you, dear readers, will give him a similarly warm welcome.

I am happy to be here. I intend to bring a little of that 'McNulty magic' to MacUser... or something.

While we will miss Scott greatly around the TUAW headquarters, we're glad to see he's landed on his feet. Dan, be careful -- he's not kidding about the "no blue M&Ms" clause in his contract rider.

I can't blame you for leaving TUAW. I've been using TUAW as my only Apple news source for a while, but given the increasing amount of brain-dead posts by the people who are supposed to be posting on a commercial blog, I'm looking for a replacement. I'll have to give this site a go.
