MacUser PodcastLessons learned during the making of this week’s episode of the MacUser Podcast: do not anger the Skype gods, for they are a fickle bunch. Likewise, do not anger the pantheon of GarageBand, for they are only slightly less capricious. Finally, try to make sure that you have some news to talk about, lest your entire conversation devolve into speculation on Steve Jobs’s eating habits.

This is one of those shows when I suspect only the few, the proud, the truly hardcore listeners will make it all the way to the bitter end. It’s hard out there for a Mac user, friends. Hard, indeed.

Update: Another lesson learned: remember to update the link so that it points to the right episode. Oh well, wouldn’t be a MacUser Podcast if something didn’t go wrong.

Comments and feedback on the show are always welcome, so feel free to share your thoughts below, or in an email to macuser [at] macuser [dot] com.

Show notes after the jump…

You can watch the iPhone ad, if you haven’t already Zaprudered it to death (that’s a verb now), at Apple.com. If you’re interested in all the clips shown, Macworld’s Philip Michaels compiled a pretty good list.

If you have to ask what’s in the box, you’ve obviously never been to YouTube. We’ll let you find it for yourself.

The British military has in fact called their military satellite network Skynet.

Our Leopard release pool was covered in MacUser Podcast #12: Both Derik and Scott are out of the running, having picked February 7th and 14th respectively. My pick was April 1st, so cross your fingers.

Apple’s planned a special event for April 15th at the National Association of Broadcasters conference. Perhaps we’ll see Final Cut 6, and the mysteriously disappearing 8-core Macs.

Mike Elgan’s piece in Computerworld was titled “How Steve Jobs blew his iPhone keynote.”

Our discussion of the bizarre “lozenge” button in OS X’s Finder stems from this Daring Fireball link.

Again, comments are welcome and encouraged. Drop them in the thread below or send an email.
