If you’re a MacUser reader, we suspect you might also partake of the content offered by our more, er, distinguished siblings over at what we lovingly refer to as the Mothership. If you’ve gone by the Macworld site in the past week or two, you may have also seen that the team was preparing to roll out a new website. Well, wait no more: the bouncing baby site was finally delivered late last night, weighing in at a hefty 20MB, 416KB and both baby and parents are resting comfortably.
All right, I really have no idea what the size of the website is, but I’ll tell you this: it’s filled to the brim with new features and all your favorite existing content, like Mac Gems, Chris Breen’s iPod Blog (now rechristened Playlist), and hey, Gadgetbox too. The Macworld team had many goals with the new site, among them making it easier to find the content you want, and encouraging more feedback from readers. At the bottom of every story, you’ll now find Siskel & Ebert-style thumbs-up and thumbs-down icons, inviting you to make your voice heard.
The site remains in beta (and not just ‘cause it’s trendy), and the team asks that you let them know about any glitches or potential improvements so that they can continue to better serve you.
MacUser is your source for news, info, and opinion about Apple, the Mac, and the iPod. Our dedicated team of bloggers covers everything that is relevant to Mac users — and, okay, some stuff that’s not quite relevant, but is still a lot of fun. (Plus, we've got columns by Andy Ihnatko!)

But what happened to MacUser on the new Macworld website. I don't see it there!
@hank: No worries. ;) I'm told it's coming later today. Crisis averted!
Ah, Hank. you beat me to it. I usually read macworld's articles and then link here, but I don't see the macuser link anywhere. Please tell me that the upgrade was more than just the "looks" department. Cause it looks like omitting one of your offspring's site is rather a downgrade.
What kind of a mothership is this that only breastfeeds you but doesn't pick you up to play, change your diaper and burp you?
Was this a Natural Spontaneous Vaginal Delivery or was it a Cesearian Section?
20 MB is fairly hefty...
Mac Users need to know this stuff...
Err...why are there PC/Vista ads from Microsoft all over every page?
@Philippe Azimzadeh: What ads?
Adblock Plus: Save your time and traffic
They made THAT MESS thinking it would make it EASIER to find content? Are you kidding me? All I see are ads everywhere, dead-end links and more ads.
It is a bit busy, and I like the older format better as I am more used to it. However, the new format is ok and will take a little time to get used to.
The ads are how Macworld/Macuser keep afloat. They probably won't be going away anytime soon. Economics baby! :)
Ta ta..
I would guess they put far more emphasis on the publishing system than they did designing something that their audience would actually find easier to read. It's quite hard to read the new site. It's a pity MacWorld messed up such a great opportunity as this site has been my source for Mac news for 10 years or more - one of the few sites that I have continued to visit during that time (I still remember MacCentral being based out of Halifax). Like many I'm sure I can adjust but with so many other sources of information out there it would seem that they have taken a huge risk in not investing more effort in design.
