Ah, music industry. Will you never learn? Just three and a half years after the record labels settled a suit accusing them of CD price fixing, the big boys are again in hot water. Playlist and others are reporting this morning that the Department of Justice is investigating several music labels for digital music price-fixing.
Was it only last summer that we were hearing speculation that the very same industry was trying to browbeat Apple into raising the prices in the iTunes Music store, prompting Steve to call them “greedy?” Good times. Good times.
My favorite quote of the day? Jupiter Research research director (in the department of redundancy department) Mark Mulligan: “Let’s face it, the DOJ wouldn’t be doing this if they thought they were fixing the prices too low.”
Touché, Mark. Touché.
