A while back, we reported on the software hack that Andrew Escobar devised to enable FrontRow on any Mac, not just the ones Apple had shipped with it included. Escobar was later served with a cease and desist letter from Apple, and took down the software to comply with their demands. The end, right?
Not unlike the last five minutes of an episode of Law & Order, this story has taken a bit of a twist. Escobar no longer believes that the C&D came from Apple (where will the counterfeiting stop?). He outlines his suspicions on his blog:
The upshot of the whole deal? FrontRow Enabler is back online; so get to downloading before Apple or its imitators yank it again. At the time of the email I had my address clearly posted on the Contact page. Apple did not send a written letter, which is a reasonable expectation.
There was an email address included. No one at Apple has responded to my email in response to the original email in question.
Compared to other legal letter, this one is poorly written and a little to non-threatening to be considered legitimate.
