Apple responds to EU; EU studying response “carefully”

Way back in April, the EU sent a “statement of objections” to Apple and some of the major record labels. The statement alleged antitrust violations, since European Union residents could only buy from the country in which they live, and prices fluctuate inordinately from nation to nation.

The first deadline for a response, June 5th, whooshed by, so the EU gave Apple and the labels an extension until the last day of school. Er, June 20th. Which was yesterday. Apple apparently managed to turn in their homework on time this go-round. A spokesperson for the EU said, “‘They answered yesterday and we are studying (the response) carefully at this point.”

Through painstakingly-instituted diplomatic back channels, MacUser has obtained an exclusive copy of Apple’s response to the EU, sent directly by email from Steve Jobs to the EU executive:
