iTunes 7 secret: multiple libraries

iTunes 7 Library ChooserWouldn’t it be nice if you could have multiple iTunes libraries? One that stayed on your laptop’s hard drive and then another larger library which resided on a big external hard drive you could share between your desktop and laptop? Well your dreams have been answered in the form of iTunes 7. From Apple’s site:

Multiple Libraries
Build your collection over multiple libraries, and keep them on different hard drives to save space.

Working with multiple iTunes libraries is much like working with multiple iPhoto libraries, or even like running a Windows partition on your Intel Mac: simply hold down the Option key when starting the application.

The day I’ll truly be satisfied, though, is the day iTunes can actively search for your external drive and add/remove music on-the-fly when it detects your drive. That would really be a convenient way to keep different music libraries between two computers while saving HD space on your laptop.
