iTunes 7.7 gets appy, prepares you for a 3G world

iTunesTopApps1-1.jpgApple’s wasting no time kick-starting the July 11th fray, first by shutting down .Mac for the transition to MobileMe, and now releasing iTunes 7.7 for download on the iTunes site, or from Software Update, to prepare users for Friday’s debut of the iPhone 3G.

Use iTunes 7.7 to sync music, video, and more with iPhone 3G, and download applications from the iTunes Store exclusively designed for iPhone and iPod touch with software version 2.0 or later. Also use the new Remote application for iPhone or iPod touch to control iTunes playback from anywhere in your home - a free download from the App Store.

The App Store isn’t yet directly accessible from iTunes, but MacRumors reports that the applications are indeed listed—find them by searching for their names in the iTunes Store. (Searching for “AIM,” for example, will lead you to AOL’s AIM app (iTunes) for the iPhone, and searching for “remote” will turn up Apple’s Remote app (iTunes), which lets you control your Mac’s iTunes, or an Apple TV, from an iPhone/iPod touch over Wi-Fi.) MacRumors has compiled a handy list of iTunes links that will help you browse the library of apps currently listed on iTunes.

All we need now is the iPhone 2.0 software.

Apple? Hmmm? iPhone 2.0 software?

We’re waiting.

All you need to do is download one free app. Select 'Applications' from the library menu then select 'Get more applications' from the bottom right. Your now in the App store.

Sure it is! While in the "Applications" window in your iTunes Library click on "Get more Applications" in the bottom right corner.

Turn on "Applications" in the Preferences (General Tab), Click "Applications" under the Library in the left panel, and then click "Get more Applications" in the bottom right corner to get to the App Store.
