Pierre Igot at Betalogue notes that iTunes 7.1 is finally compatible with Full Keyboard Access. This means that if you have your Mac set up to let you tab to not just text fields, but drop down menus, checkboxes, buttons, etc., iTunes will finally support that functionality.
In order to enable Full Keyboard Access, go to System Preferences -> Keyboard & Mouse -> Keyboard Shortcuts, and select the radio button at the bottom that reads “All controls.” As you’ll see, you can also toggle this setting by hitting control-F7. Now, when you bring up, for example, the info window on a song in iTunes, you can also tab to the Genre drop down, or to the Next and Previous buttons. Once an item is selected, you can hit spacebar to activate it.
Personally, I’m not a huge fan of Full Keyboard Access, but I can see that it’s useful to many. I prefer for my tab key to work the way it always has—letting me move between text areas. But thanks for giving us the option, Apple.
