The release of iTunes 7.0.1 really shouldn’t come as a surprise to anybody. The web’s been overflowing with complaints about bugs in the software since its release just over two weeks ago. While Apple presented fixes for many of the problems in support documents last week, a patch has been anticipated.
Unfortunately, Apple’s been less than forthcoming about the contents of version 7.0.1. Here’s the description they offer:
iTunes 7.0.1 addresses stability and performance issues with Cover Flow, CD importing, iPod syncing, and more.Wow, don’t blind us with your confidences there. One hopes this will fix the more egregious problems, most of which seem to be with the Windows version of the software.
How about it, MacUsers: anybody install 7.0.1 and find that it magically fixed their problems? Hit us up in the comments below with your experiences.
MacUser is your source for news, info, and opinion about Apple, the Mac, and the iPod. Our dedicated team of bloggers covers everything that is relevant to Mac users — and, okay, some stuff that’s not quite relevant, but is still a lot of fun.
I never really had any major issues with it before, but after installing the update, the store seems to load a lot faster for me.
I do have some issues with the album artwork view still. Different songs on the same album show up within multiple pictures.
iTunes 7.01 fixed the slow importing of CDs.
To fix the mentioned above change the album to a compilation or put everything under the same artist. (If you have a bunch you might want to do a highlight all then make compilation)
Thanks Tim. That did the trick for the most part.
If you add the same Album Artist tag to all the tracks of the album, they will all be grouped as one in the Coverflow view. This way you can keep the artist info correct (say for instance you want to be able to easily find all your Tim McGraw songs including the ones on Faith Hill albums) and not turn non-compiliations into compilations. But I might just be a bit anal about accuracy.
So THAT'S what album artist is for! Thanks for the tip George. What would you do for a soundtrack which has multiple artists?
The 7.0.1 update fixed the issue I was having with the album view and Cover Flow. Now all my tracks are getting grouped to their respective albums correctly. Score one for point releases.
No gig... My iPod was killed by the 1.2 update software that was included with iTunes7, and judging by the comments on Apple's own support forums I'm not the only one with a very expensive brick.
It fixed the crashing on my parent's G5
Helped (but didn't totally fix) the Windows audio problem. The audio still distorts when the CPU is taxed with something other than iTunes itself.
