Hockey fans rejoice: iTunes has added the Stanley Cup finals to the iTunes store. Unlike those NFL game highlights iTunes offered a while ago, these are the full games: more than one hour and a half of hockey action.
Personally, I think the optimal way to enjoy the battle opposing the Ottawa Senators and the Anaheim Ducks would be to watch the games live. But if you just need to see that goal again or missed an important game, Apple’s offer is quite attractive: games are available for $1.99 each—that’s about 2 cents a minute. A “season pass” is also offered for $6.99. You can find all of that here (iTunes link).
Unfortunately, like with all decent video content, that remains a US-only offer. Us Canadians have to settle with watching our national sport live. Game 3 gets underway tonight at 8:00 PM EDT—can Ottawa come back from its 0-2 deficit?
MacUser is your source for news, info, and opinion about Apple, the Mac, and the iPod. Our dedicated team of bloggers covers everything that is relevant to Mac users — and, okay, some stuff that’s not quite relevant, but is still a lot of fun.
how redundant. i mean really, if Canadians can't download hockey, why bother?
Joost has also added an NHL channel this week. Every playoff game this year so far, on demand and (mostly) free. A short spot runs every so often. Not live, but like iTunes, the next best thing.
Apple really needs to start supporting the Canadian market..it's ridiculous that we continue to get teased by video content provided to Americans and there is not a word when any of this will come north of the border. And now with our national sport, I mean come on!
I was excited to read this, until I was reminded that we Canucks can't buy shows on Itunes still.
Oh well, some of us are lucky enough to have tickets to the finals. Whoot. Go Sens Go!
Also, I may be wrong, but I believe cbcsports.ca is streaming the games.
I know I'll be watching it live.
