Advancing the iTunes world dominion plan by another step, Facebook recently added a music section to their site which boasts close ties to Apple’s online store.
Each participating artist (among the very few who’ve joined this initiative) has their own page on the social networking site, on which you can browse and listen to samplings of their songs, interact with them and have discussions in their communities.
The “Buy Now” links are where the Apple touch kicks off. These are iTunes links that take you to the music store within the application, where you can purchase the song(s) you’re interested in. Facebook doesn’t give you the option to buy any song that doesn’t appear in the iTunes catalogue, which means that this is an exclusive arrangement between them and Apple.
What’s surprising is that Apple itself is keeping mum about it. Unlike Apple’s agreement with FOX to sell American Idol songs and the Starbucks Wi-Fi deal, they haven’t even had a press release announcing this partnership. What gives?

It's probably a soft launch while they get some more acts lined up for the service. Then, they'll do a big announcement about it.
another mac blog had this to say, which suggested it may be competition?
"Facebook may be getting closer to launching a music service that competes with Apple's iTunes, the Financial Times reported Wednesday," Caroline McCarthy reports for CNET.
