Deep within the annals of the iTunes Store has sprouted a new section that lists the movies that will soon be appearing on the store. Movies in the coming soon section can be pre-ordered “so that you’ll be the first to get them when they become available” (along with all the other pre-orderers, of course).
As of this writing, there is a grand total of one movie (Enchanted, if you must know, from the house of Mickey Mouse) available for the non-discounted price of $14.99 and slated to be released on 18 March 2008. We expect that more of them will turn up as time goes by.
This seems like a pretty unnecessary addition to me. Why would someone want to pre-order movies that are supposed to be coming soon, specially since it’s not as if the chance is being offered before the theatre release? Doesn’t it make more sense to wait for it to become available and then decide between buying and renting it?

This has been around as long as movies have been on iTunes. Seems like there is an error though. Prerelease movies are supposed to be $12.99 through the first week of release.
What I don't understand is why those movies for rent aren't also being offered for sale. Doesn't make sense at all!
@Goobimama, it makes perfect sense, the studios never agreed to sell. What makes no sense is the movies that are available for sale but not rent.
If you look at the DVD release date, its the same day 3/18/08, so the rental would be coming about a month later... now if Disney wanted to release their rentals the same day, I wouldn't object.
