ITV boards the iTunes Store UK bandwagon with classic content

ITV on iTunesApple has some hot news for their iTunes Store UK customers—joining the likes of BBC and Channel 4 on the television section of the Store now is ITV, with “complete series of classic ITV shows like Cold Feet, Brideshead Revisited and Captain Scarlet”.

Dawn Airey, the Managing Director of ITV global content, mentioned that ITV plans to get a lot more of their archived content onto the store so that their viewers can have “the opportunity to watch their favorite shows wherever they are”.

Even with the inclusion of these, the UK store still has a lot of catching up to do when compared to the relatively huge catalogue the US version of the iTunes Store boasts of, but these are steps in the right direction. We’d love to hear the opinions of our UK readers. Is this, like, awesome news, or just plain lame?

I live in Gloucester in the UK. ITV is far inferior to BBC and C4. Also, with the C4 content comes E4 (like channel 4 but better and more comedy) and More4 (like E4 but more american, and more documentaries)

It's getting there. Adding ITV content is good since it adds more local content, although I can't say that I care for the shows themselves but expect that more are coming later. My big complaint when TV Shows became available on the UK iTunes Store was that they were all US shows. I don't have anything much against US television, particularly once the ads have been cut out, but it was annoying that this was all there was initially, and a pretty paltry selection at that. However, the situation is definitely improving (I've even bought a few episodes) and the addition of another content provider is good news since it suggests more content available from them in the future and it may encourage other providers to join in.
