iTunes Foreign Exchange Program announced

iTunes Foreign ExchangeThose of you pining for foreign purchases on the iTunes store just got a little bit closer to your dream today. The iTunes Foreign Exchange Program lets artists from one country cover a song from the other’s catalog, in its native tongue, and vice versa. Then each cover is made an exclusive on the iTunes Store. Not only will this program yield original content for the iTunes Store, but also, I think that this is an original concept as well. (Correct me if I’m wrong.)

The first bands to participate in the program are America’s +44 (whose bass player you may remember as Mark Hoppus from Blink-182) and Wir sind Helden, a band from Germany. Mark Hoppus enjoys the idea of the program, having this to say:

In America, we don’t really listen to music in other languages. I think it’s a cool idea to get people to open their ears to music from different parts of the world.

So keep your eyes out for these international mash-ups, coming to your local iTunes Store soon.

My credit card used for iTunes allows more than one address registered with it. I asked the credit card company to register an address in two other countries besides the one in the US. There was no problem.
