iTunes falls prey to the deadly “Ken Burns Effect”

Ken Burns's JazzPhotos that crossfade into each other as they slowly drift in and out of the frame. You know what I’m talking about: the “Ken Burns Effect” that’s been in iMovie and iPhoto for years now. Now it’s come to iTunes too—but not in the way that you think.

You can now download several of Burns’s own documentary series from the iTunes Store, including America, American Lives, and the fantastic Jazz series. There are six episodes of American Lives available for $9.99 each, or $44.99 for the full series; 7 episodes of America for $4.99 each, or $29.99 together; and 10 episodes of Jazz for $9.99 apiece, or $79.99 together.

Sadly missing are Burns’s other two seminal documentaries: The Civil War and Baseball. I’d imagine they’ll make an appearance sooner or later.
